Michael Jary

Michael Jary was one of the founding team of OC&C Strategy Consultants in 1987. This year marks his 28th year in consulting.

Michael served as the Worldwide Managing Partner of OC&C from 2005 to 2011. Prior to that he had been the Managing Partner of OC&C’s UK office and the leader of the worldwide retail practice, and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Michael's professional interest lies in retail and consumer branded businesses, where he works with the boards of major corporations in Europe, the USA and Asia. He is a regular speaker and commentator in the retail sector and a guest lecturer in marketing at INSEAD.

Michael is the co-author of Retail Power Plays (a top-ten business bestseller published by Macmillan in the UK, and in the US by New York University Press) and Markenpower (published in Germany by Gabler) and a contributor to “Brands the New Wealth Creators” (published by Macmillan).

Outside of OC&C, Michael is involved in several company boards and charities. He is a non-executive director of Nationwide, the UK’s largest savings brand and third-largest mortgage provider. He is the chairman of Duchy Originals, the food company established by HRH The Prince of Wales to promote organic farming and to help protect and sustain the countryside. He is the chairman of The Prince's Social Enterprises, a group of social enterprises which donate their profits to The Prince's Charities. And he is the chair of the board of trustees of The Fairtrade Foundation, which licenses the Fairtrade mark in the UK and works for better prices, decent working conditions and local sustainability for farmers and workers in the developing world.
