We have attempted below to answer some of the questions frequently asked by candidates. We cannot cover all questions, nor all answers, in as much depth as we would like, so please contact us if you have further questions.
What type of clients does the Greater China office serve? And where?
From our two offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai, we are able to serve clients all over Asia. While 50% of our work is in China, we also operate in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea and Indonesia. Most of our clients are multinational companies - the very top players in their industry.
How do you assess the interview?
In the interview, we look for qualities including intellect, creativity, analytic ability, personality, drive, and leadership. We also assess whether you and OC&C are suited to working together. Go to Application Tips > Interviews for more information.
Do I need to speak and write Chinese to apply for the Greater China office?
In general, we expect the team to be able to work easily in a Mandarin (Putonghua) environment (and obviously read Chinese). Since the team works on a day-to-day basis with the clients’ middle management and working teams, the ability to communicate in their native language is important for information collection and relationship building. The ability to read Chinese is also important as most data sources are usually in Chinese. However, as most of our clients are multinational companies, our recommendations are usually delivered in English making the ability to write in Chinese less critical.
For candidates with strong consulting experience, this language requirement can be relaxed.
Can I choose between the Hong Kong office and the Shanghai office?
We welcome candidates to indicate their preference between the two Greater China offices. We appreciate personal and family conditions and requirements which may have impact on the location of individuals. However, allocation to the two offices is driven by the requirements of the individual office, existing staff portfolio and work permit requirements.
