OC&C advises New England Seafood International on its acquisition by Sojitz Corporation
Congratulations to New England Seafood International (NESI) on its recent acquisition by Sojitz Corporation, a leading Japanese trading and investment group. OC&C provided commercial vendor due diligence to NESI in support of the transaction.
Founded in 1990, NESI is a leading UK-based seafood processor and distributor, supplying high-quality, sustainably sourced seafood to major retailers and foodservice customers. The business has established a strong position in the UK seafood market, with a product portfolio spanning white fish, wild Alaskan salmon and sashimi-grade tuna. NESI combines customer-focused product development with advanced processing capabilities and a commitment to responsible sourcing, including MSC- and ASC-certified products.
The acquisition was completed through Sojitz’s purchase of Sealaska Foods International Holdings (SFIH), which includes NESI and associated seafood businesses. The transaction provides Sojitz with an established European platform, strengthening its international sourcing network, processing capabilities and relationships with leading UK retailers.
The investment represents an important opportunity for NESI’s next phase of growth, combining its established market position and product development expertise with Sojitz’s global reach. Together, the businesses will be well positioned to capitalise on growing consumer demand for convenient, high-quality and sustainably sourced seafood, while unlocking opportunities through joint procurement, product innovation and expanded distribution.
