Tanim, Associate Consultant

What was your background prior to joining OC&C?
I grew up in Tower Hamlets, East London and studied at a state comprehensive school before going on to study Chemical Engineering at Bath University. I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted to do after university, so I tried my hand at a host of industries (I would advise anyone reading this to do the same!) via insight schemes and internships ranging from teaching, engineering, sales and trading, consulting and working at a tech start up.

Ultimately, I opted for consulting as I found it the most challenging and intellectually stimulating. I joined OC&C in January 2018.

What’s your favourite OC&C experience?
It's a toss-up between all the away weekends and training weeks (Chicago, Tenerife and the Algarve to name a few) and some great project experiences (underpinned by superb colleagues, interesting problems and real responsibility from the get go). Personal favourites include being flown out to New York for a three-week project in my second week and a project where I visited 3 countries in quick succession touring some very remote locations across Scandinavia.

What do you like to get up to in your free time outside the office?
I will play football at any given opportunity and can be located at Hackney Marshes playing Sunday league religiously on weekends and whenever I can after work. I also captained the OC&C football team from 2018-19 in a year where we achieved notoriety completing an undefeated season. I also really enjoy bouldering (I know, every 20-something Londoners favourite pastime) and cooking South Asian and Middle Eastern food.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Believe in yourself, try your hand at as many things as you can and enjoy the ride!
