Undergraduate Internship

Join OC&C for an 8-week summer internship, from June – August, and you will be given a real insight into the world of strategy consulting. Following a week of learning about the consulting toolkit you will be assigned to a live project. This will give you the opportunity to work alongside our consultants to support the delivery of strategic advice to clients. The project could be within any of our sectors and you will gain insight across a range of strategic questions and problems.

When does your Summer Internship vacancy open?

This vacancy opens mid-August and closes at the end of September. We can only accept applications submitted through our online portal.

Do you offer work experience outside of your formal programmes?

As we offer a full range of formal programmes for all levels we do not offer additional work experience outside of this.

I would like to apply for the internship, but I am not in my penultimate year of study, can I still apply?

Our undergraduate summer internship scheme is open only to those students in the penultimate year of their undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Unfortunately, this also excludes anyone that is in the final year of their first degree but going on to do a Masters. Our aim is to provide candidates with a first-hand insight into the consulting world.

At the end of which we would typically make full time Associate Consultant offers to those who have performed well. These candidates would then become ambassadors for OC&C using their university knowledge in supporting our recruitment activities and events on campus.

What criteria do you use to judge CVs and in considering applications?

CVs should be 1-2 pages long.

We judge CVs against three criteria:
- Intellectual curiosity: we need the most curious people to tackle the most difficult questions, so applicants need to demonstrate consistent academic excellence.
- Extracurricular interests: through extra-curricular or academic activities, be able to demonstrate a natural flair for commercial awareness and thought leadership.
- Commercial awareness: we look for people who can demonstrate their commercial flair whether through internships, part-time work or volunteering.
How do I know if my application was submitted successfully? When should I expect to hear a response?

Associate Consultant - Strategy

As a new Associate Consultant, you will be particularly relied upon within the team to organize data effectively and add insight from primary and secondary research. You will often be the team member closest to the data and / or with the best overview of the market and therefore add valuable insight to drive the answer forward.

At what level do you recruit PhDs?

We actively recruit graduates who have undertaken further study. PhDs and post-docs will join as Associate Consultants, alongside undergraduate but progress within the firm is entirely on merit, and the benefits of a PhD typically allow you to progress more quickly. We also offer an additional joining bonus for PhD students once they start with us.

We operate several start-dates through the year (typically January, March and September) meaning your start with us can be at a time that suits the end of your studies. Please apply the October before you plan to submit your thesis.

Can I take a year out before I start?

Our key objective is to recruit the best people, and we are certainly flexible here. We typically offer September, January and March intakes; therefore, the possibility exists to take off a few months.

If you would like to defer your start date, we cannot make any promises but would aim to work with you to offer the best solution.

MBA

Our focus on strategy means that projects tend to be shorter than in other consultancies (typically 3-8 weeks), and involve more time based in our offices than travelling. At what level do you recruit MBAs?

We recruit people at all stages of their careers; the starting level is determined on an individual basis by the experience and skills you have to offer.

MBAs enter at Consultant level as they typically already have the appropriate work experience and toolkit that recent university graduates need to develop.

When does your MBA vacancy open?

There are two application windows for this position. September to October for full-time positions and October to January for internships.
