We are delighted to congratulate Sony on its acquisition of STATSports, the Irish-based global leader in wearable performance tracking technology, through a majority stake. OC&C provided M&A support to Sony in connection with this transaction.
Founded in 2008 by Alan Clarke and Sean O’Connor, STATSports has built a strong reputation for delivering advanced wearable technology that helps elite sports teams maximise performance and minimise injury risk. Its flagship GPS tracking solution, Apex, is used by over 800 professional teams worldwide—including clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City, PSG and Liverpool, as well as national teams like England, Portugal, the All Blacks and Springboks.
The acquisition forms part of Sony’s growing footprint in sports technology. It complements existing investments in Kitman Labs, Hawk-Eye Innovations and KinaTrax, and supports Sony’s ambition to offer a comprehensive suite of wearable and optical tracking solutions to elite sports organisations globally.
OC&C’s support to Sony drew on our deep experience across the sports ecosystem, data-driven performance analytics and B2B software. Our analysis assessed STATSports’ position in the professional and consumer markets, its product roadmap, competitive landscape, and broader strategic opportunities.
